Upon completing the Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Development Studies, graduates will be prepared to independently conduct and lead research that enables an in-depth analysis of the challenges and processes of social and sustainable development in Latin America, applying an interdisciplinary approach.

Graduates of the Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Development Studies are critical and autonomous researchers capable of designing and conducting interdisciplinary research that comprehensively analyzes issues, processes, and practices related to social and sustainable development. They integrate concepts, theories, and methods from different disciplines to generate sound and applicable knowledge.
They also actively participate in academic communities and networks, both nationally and internationally, contributing research, recommendations, and proposals useful to decision-makers, officials, and leaders of civil society organizations, as well as other key actors in the field of development.

It is important to bear in mind that, according to international standards, Level C1 would be appropriate for applying to one of CIDER’s programs. To achieve this level, the student must:
i) be able to understand a wide variety of long, demanding texts and recognize implicit meanings in them.
ii) express oneself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious effort to find the right expression.
iii) use the language flexibly and effectively for social, academic, and professional purposes.
iv) produce clear, well-structured, and detailed texts on complex topics, demonstrating correct use of organizational, articulatory, and cohesive mechanisms in the text.
According to Decree 1067 of May 26, 2015, and Resolution 714 of June 12, 2015, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, foreign students who are going to study in Colombia are required to have a Student Visa or another type of visa that allows them to study. This visa must be presented to the Admissions and Records Office, window 4, or sent by email to extranjerosuniandes@uniandes.edu.co, with a copy to cidergestor2@uniandes.edu.co, in order to comply with this legal requirement. It is important to complete this procedure before printing your enrollment payment receipt. Additionally, current Colombian law requires foreign nationals, both adults and minors, who hold a visa valid for more than three months to carry a foreigner’s identity card as an identification document. Therefore, it is also necessary to meet this requirement, which may be submitted together with your visa.
Remember that you need to submit your visa application sufficiently in advance to avoid difficulties with tuition payment and enrollment registration. Yes. It is possible to pursue a double program by completing between 45 and 48 credits in total instead of the 74 credits required when taken separately, allowing students to earn two master’s degrees with a lower academic workload and investment.
Yes. Doctoral students may transfer credits completed in other CIDER programs or at external institutions, provided they meet the requirements of the University’s credit-transfer regulations and obtain approval from the Academic Coordination Office.
The program promotes academic mobility, allowing students to participate in exchanges, joint research projects, and international networks focused on development studies, thereby strengthening their interdisciplinary training and global experience.
Graduates enter the public sector, NGOs, international cooperation organizations, academia, and research centers, applying their knowledge to public policy, applied research, and social and sustainable development projects.
